I will be starting this weekend making the finding aid for the Covid Collection the VA has. I will be updating the blog every Sunday! Here's a picture of my technology so I can now get to work!
I started the process to get my practicum underway back in June. Already working for a government organization, I know how long it takes to get things underway and approved. I figured if I started in June with the paperwork, I would be able to start on or close to the start of semester. And that assumption was correct. Last week I received an email saying that all of my paperwork was in, signed, and correct (passed my first test, I know my name) and within 2-3 days I would be getting notification of making an appointment for fingerprinting, badging procedures, and, hopefully, computer access. Fingerprinting and badging is a go as of today....however, we just went through the edge of Hurricane Ida, and are currently under curfew and road conditions are questionable. So, the real nitty-gritty work will have to be postponed until around the end of this week or next week. I hope to be fully operational by the end of next week, though. Then my weekends and evenings will be ...
After a couple of hurricanes and a false start or two, I finally got access to my VA email for the practicum. That's important because in order for me to get the notice that my equipment is ready, I need access to that email. Success! The archivist is now on the phone with IT to figure out why my equipment was canceled because they didn't have a particular monitor that I didn't even ask for. I'm getting a laptop. 🤷♀️ So another little snag here but hopefully I will have my equipment by Friday and can work this weekend on some things. Here's a picture of my to do list and notes taken while on the phone and waiting for software to work! (Properly redacted to protect the innocent, of course.)
